M. Scott Gibson, 80, of Flatwoods, WV passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Bellaire at Devonshire assisted living facility in Scott Depot, WV. He was born on August 12, 1937 in Charleston, WV to the late Luther Gibson and Gladys (Strickland) Gibson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Barbara Underwood.
Scott in survived by wife, Margaret (Self) Gibson whom he shared 45 years of marriage together. Scott is also survived by, son M. Scott Gibson, Jr. and wife, Crystal of Clay, WV; daughters Pamela Thistlethwaite and husband, Danny of South Charleston, WV and Amy Arrington and husband, Joe of Gallipolis Ferry, WV. Also surviving grandchildren Ian Thistlethwaite, Alex Thistlethwaite Parra and husband Carlos, Trent Gibson, Kylie Arrington, and Colton Arrington, and great-grandchildren, Daniella and Lily Parra. In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and is survived by one brother, Morgan Gibson and wife, Joyce of Clay, WV, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He graduated from Clay County High School and then attended Glenville State College, and later the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was a longtime member of the West Virginia Funeral Director Association. Scott spent many years at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home, in Clay County, WV. He owned and operated the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home from 1972 until his health declined and was unable to. He was a member of the Strange Creek Masonic Lodge #130 AF and AM. He was a past Director of the City National Banks.
Family received friends on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stockert-Gibson-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621. Following visitation funeral services were held in the Stockert-Gibson-Paletti Funeral Home at 4 p.m. with the Reverend Sheila Baughman officiating.
