Galien, MI – Larry “Steve” Truman, 69, of Galien, Michigan died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital.
Steve was born February 11, 1945 Montgomery, West Virginia to Everett and Vera (Skaggs) Truman. He attended West Virginia State College after high school. He was the son of a Baptist minister and his faith and the love of Southern Gospel music continued his entire life. On August 14, 1986 he married Barbara Pirkel in New Buffalo, Michigan. Steve was employed as a Production Superintendent for Criterian Catalyst, having worked in Michigan City, Indiana and retiring from the Azusa, California plant. He was a member of the Washington Lodge # 58 F and AM, St. Albans, WV. Steve enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gardening, and watching college football.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Truman of Galien; children, Ronnie (Diana) Truman of St. Albans; Brenda (Phil) Hicks of Wake Forest, NC; Billy Hodgson of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Richard (Toni) Pirkel of Fish Lake, IN; Ted (Kristie) Pirkel of Three Oaks, Michigan and Shan’te (Steve) Ohst of St. Joseph, Michigan; grandchildren, Nathan, Michael, Matthew, Amanda, Dan, Josh, Alicia, Nick, Richard, Tori, Wesley, Jason, Bradley and Yaya; great grandchildren Joseph, Karma and Ben; brother, Everett (Yachiyo) Truman of St. Albans and sister Mary Katherine (Richard) Evans of New Buffalo.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Pobocik Funeral Home, 106 East Ash Street, Three Oaks followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Reverend Brad Bartlemay officiating. Services in West Virginia will be held on Saturday, November 22 with visitation from 10:00 – 1:00 pm at the Jodie Church in Jodie, West Virginia and services at 1:00 pm on Saturday at the church with the Reverend Mike Long officiating. Interment will follow at the Rich Creek Cemetery in Rich Creek, West Virginia.
