Joyce Kay Stuber passed away on December 10, 2022, after complications with brain surgery following a lengthy rare illness. She was born Joyce Kay Brown on October 2, 1956 to George S. and Bertha Elizabeth Brown of Maysel, WV.
She is survived by siblings, Patricia Brown Runnion of Maysel, Randy Brown of Widen, Kevin Brown of Clay, and Robert Brown of Arnoldsburg. She was married on Valentine’s Day in 1974 to her pen pal and best friend Gary Lee Stuber. They bought a home in Elkhurst and had six children: James Brown of Glenn, Lorna Stuber Frye of Bristol, VA, Leona Stuber McGlothlin of Beckley, Greg Stuber of Elkhurst, Geoffrey Cogar of Webster Springs, and Christian Stuber of Summersville. Greg passed away in 2020. Joyce has twenty-five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren with one more presently on the way. She was a wife and homemaker. Saved at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on May 6, 1992, she, her husband and children were members there until becoming members of Clay First Baptist Church in 2002.
She survived brain surgery in 2003, and became ‘mamaw ’ to more than her listed grandchildren, many more children than she was ever related too in her community. She proved family was who you chose to be family. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial funeral service for family and friends for Joyce (no viewing is possible she was cremated) was held on December 17, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Clay First Baptist Church, 1594 Tripplet Ridge Road, Clay, WV 25045.
