Clay– Hazel Leah Stover, 98, of Clay, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
Hazel was born in Skyles, WV, on December 1, 1917. She was the daughter of “Elder” Zachariah Taylor and Ruth Helen (Vaughn) Whaling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Monroe Stover.
She was a lover of poetry and music, and was an avid song writer. Hazel was an advocate of the preservation of traditional Appalachian music, and a very devout Primitive Baptist.
Hazel is survived by her five children: Bobby Monroe (Rozella) Stover, Norma Lee (Fred) Daniels, Carolyn Sue (Mickey) Young, Jerry Dale Stover and Roger Kent (Patty) Stover; and many nieces; nephews; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Wilson-Shamblin Funeral Home, with Minister Dennis Legg officiating. Burial will be in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay.
Friends gathered with family from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening, November 1, at the funeral home.
