On Monday, February 20, 2023, Gloria Jean Sears, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 59.
Gloria Jean Sears was born on February 8, 1964, in Gassaway, WV to Romas and Margaret (Duncan) Laxton. She worked at Big Otter Elementary as a teacher aid for many years. On June 8, 2000, she married Gregory Monroe Sears. They had a daughter ,Megan Renee Sears, and a son, James Dalton Sears.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Romas, and her mother, Margaret, as well as her sister, Sandra Gill, and her brother, Ernest Laxton.
She is survived by her husband, Greg; her children Megan and James; her mother-in-law Linda Taft; brothers, Tommy Laxton, and Rodney (Jane) Laxton; sisters, Eva (David) Altizer, Rita (Gary) Payne, Teresa (Richard) Drake, and Nancy Laxton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, with a viewing for the family and friends from 12 to 1:00 p, at Wilson Smith Funeral Home in Clay with Rev. David Altizer officiating. Burial followed in the Moorefork Cemetery located at Moorefork, WV.
The family had family and friends gather at the Big Otter Elementary School for a celebration of Gloria’s life after the burial service.
