Charlton Heights–Evelyn Faye (Hiser) Licklider, 91, of Charlton Heights, passed away suddenly Tuesday, September 13, at home.
Evelyn was born in Ansted, WV, on February 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Danity C. (Skaggs) Hiser.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Oscar Hiser and Doris Thorpe; and her loving husband, Grandison T. Licklider.
She is survived by siblings, Boyd Hiser and Betty Neal; daughters, Marilyn Hitt (Dr. John Hitt, deceased) (Alton Fort), Suann Carelli (Harry), Betsy Grzyb, and Virginia Vance; seven grandchildren, Teresa (Hitt) Newton (Craig), Eric Hitt, Todd Hitt, Ben Keenan (Thelma), Charles and Cameron Keenan, Steve J. Grzyb III, and Justin Licklider (Jess); and six great-grandchildren, Emily Chapman, Rachel Chapman, John Newton, Matthew and Jaqueline Keenan, and Annie Keenan.
Evelyn was a creative and artistic person. Combined with her giving nature, she used these attributes to express caring for her family and community. As a young mother, she sewed most of her daughters’ clothes including prom dresses and outfits for special occasions. Later she painted ornaments for the Ronald McDonald House. Her tole paintings were distributed among her family and friends who were elated to receive them.
She spent several years administering care to her bedridden husband instead of placing him in assisted care.
Evelyn was an independent person and would rather “do for” her loved ones rather than having them do for her. She possessed a zest for life that kept her active until her sudden death. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 17, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister James Dempsey officiating. Burial followed in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, WV
