Bradenton, Fla – Era Ruby Legg Kemp passed away March 24 in Bradenton, Fla. She was born in 1924 in Swandale, W.Va., the daughter of Lula and Doc Legg.
She is survived by her five sons, James Kemp Jr. of Greensboro, N.C., Dean Kemp of New York, N.Y., Donn Kemp (Jackie) of Marysville, Ohio, Gregg Kemp of Streamwood, Ill., and Brian Kemp (Kelly) of Orlando, Fla. She is also survived by two daughters, Donna Kemp of Powell, Ohio, and Beth Saalmann (David) of Bradenton Fla. She is also survived by one brother, Jerry Legg (Iona) of Frametown, W.Va., and two sisters, Bonnie Shaver of Richwood, W.Va., and Maude Barnes (Sandy) of The Villages, Fla. She is the grandmother of 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, in addition to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kemp Sr.; her parents; brothers, Ralph and Terry; and sisters Ruth, Beulah and Doris.
Era graduated from Clay County High School in 1943 and moved to Dayton, Ohio, to work in the war effort at a defense plant and eventually the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. She married in 1945 and lived in three farm communities in central Ohio before moving to Florida in 1976. She was devoted to her family and would spend her time between her home in Florida and the family farm in Ohio. She always returned to her family and friends in Harrison, W.Va.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 30, at Waters Funeral Chapel, Summersville, W.Va., from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services followed on Monday, March 31, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral chapel, with burial immediately afterward at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Dille, W.Va.
