Douglas F. Osborne, 74, of Bickmore, entered into rest Saturday, August 13, 2016.
Born July 25, 1942, in Clay, he was the son of the late Cal and Ethel Osborne. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Skidmore; brothers, Quinn and John Osborne.
He taught school at Clay Elementary, Clay County High School, and was substitute teacher of Adult Basic Education (RESA III), also served as a Clay County Social Studies Supervisor. He was a heavy equipment operator and an E.M.T. Doug was a business owner and operator in Bickmore for many years. He was a member of the Fola Missionary Baptist Church, and an Eagle Scout and had earned the God and Country Award. He graduated from Morris Harvey College, and was an avid fisherman and sportsman.
Doug is survived by his wife, Janet Carper Osborne of Bickmore; daughter, Melody (Jason) Hubbard of Clay; sons, Ronald (Sharon) Holcomb of Charleston, Donald (Jan) Holcomb of Charleston; grandchildren, Shawn Osborne, Alexis Gilliland, Alivia Gilliland, Nikki Bowman, Jason Holcomb, Amber Ruby, Donald Holcomb II, Brandy Casto and Brittini Holcomb; and nine great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; brother, Robert (Donna) Osborne of Wallback; and sisters, Jewel Stalnaker of Newport News, Va., and Martha (Simpson) Neal of Bickmore.
Doug had chosen to donate his body to West Virginia University to help others study and make advances toward the treatment and cure of rheumatoid arthritis, especially in relation to the eyes.
A memorial service and dinner to celebrate his life will be held at the Fola Missionary Baptist Church, Fola, at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 20, 2016.
