Roanoke — Donald Leroy “Buggs” Cottrell, 60, of Roanoke, formerly of Ivydale, entered into rest Thursday, October 20, 2016.
Donald was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle and friend. He touched many lives and will never be forgotten, from hunting and fishing trips, to dirt track racing, to sport competitions, Donald savored the moments he spent with his family and friends.
We are very proud of his efforts in batting cancer. We will always love and miss him.
Born October 1, 1956, in Sutton, he was the son of the late Leroy and Gladys Cottrell. In addition to his parents, Donald was also preceded in death by his son, David Allen Cottrell; brothers, Dewayne, Darrell and Dwight Cottrell; and grandparents, Carl and Grace (Stockwell) Canfield; and father and mother-in-law, Richard and Betty “Nan” Singleton.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sandy (Singleton) Cottrell of Roanoke; daughters, Chelsie Nicole and Kelsie Jean Cottrell of Ivydale; brothers, David Cottrell, Dale “Corkey” Cottrell and James Cottrell all of Ivydale, Michael Greenleaf of Newton, Gary Cutlip of Birch River and Dennis Jarrell of Gassaway; special friends, Kim West; and nieces, Victoria Claypoole and Vanessa (John) Coleman; and great niece and nephews, Natalie and Blake, and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay, with Barry Peyton officiating.
Friends gathered with family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
