Donald Eugene Dobbins was born April 2, 1949 at Tate Creek, West Virginia, to Creston C. Dobbins and Eunice Marie Bragg Dobbins. He was their tenth child and so welcomed by his nine siblings. He was a resident of Clay Health Care Center where he was loved so very much by staff and residents. Dementia is a cruel disease and after fighting prostate cancer he was taken by that disease. He passed into Heaven on May 16, 2021 to meet with his loved ones who have gone on.
Donnie loved the outdoors, working his Double D Mill Services business, running the dozer, skidder, or cutting trees. His love of hunting was well known and he had so many hunting buddies who became his family. Everyone loved our Donnie. It would be impossible to name each one. His passion was riding his horses and leading trail rides every year for nearly forty years, going over mountains and enjoying God’s beautiful outdoors. Donnie was an avid baseball player and had his own team, the Ohio Buckeyes, who would travel to WV to play ball with the Chapel team. They so enjoyed the times together. He loved to attend area music shows with the love of his life, Joyce Fitzwater, who loved him dearly and was faithfully by his side till the time he went to be with Jesus. He attended Dessie Baptist Church where his dad pastored for many years and where he accepted Christ as His Savior a few years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Roy, Ronald; sisters, Ann Jean, Betty and Linda; brother in laws, Bob Lucas, Al Lockhart, Johnny Stine, Bill Patrick ; and sister in law, Edith Dobbins.
He is survived by his brothers, Kent (Brenda) and Rodney (Linda); and sister, Carolyn Dobbins Patrick; and sister in laws, Sandy Dobbins and Trudy Dobbins; and a host of nieces, nephews and greats that adored him and he them. Even though he had no children of his own he loved his many nieces, nephews and greats and always interacted so well with them. Most of them had nicknames given to them by Uncle Donnie. He will be missed.
Donnie’s funeral service was 1 P.M. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Lester “Buddy” Lemon officiating. Burial was in the Ramsey – Dobbins Cemetery, Clem.
