Well, the CCHS Panther basketball team sure knows how to get the adrenalin flowing in a basketball game. If you were there Friday night, you know what I mean. It was homecoming night, and with bad weather predicted, the Panthers took to the court against the Red Devils of Calhoun County. The Panthers, still looking for their first win of the season, came out playing hard and at the half looked as though they would lose again, being outscored 18-28 in the first half. The Panthers had plenty of looks at the basket but couldn’t seem to get a consistent run on the net. However, when they came out in the second half, the fan was turned on for both the offense and the defense, holding the Red Devils to only 13 points in the second half. Jared Legg, Noah Taylor and Zach Ahart got their air show going scoring 15 points in the third period. The Panthers took the lead in the fourth with a two point effort by Mason Clark under the boards. With 13 seconds left in the game, the Panthers were down just one point at 38-39. With the Panthers in control of the ball, it was game on. The ball was brought in and with just two seconds left, a three point shot was attempted by Jared Legg. As fate would have it, one of the Red Devils trimmed their fingernails on the ball and deflected it just enough, and the game was over. Win or lose, it was a whale of a game full of edge of your seat action. The Panthers will have three games this week starting with the Hoover Huskies on Monday night, game time 7:30 PM. This will be also Senior night for the Panthers. The next game will be away at Braxton County on Wednesday night, game time 7:30PM. Also, I want to thank the stage band who brought the live tunes to the event; you’re a missed part of basketball games.
