The last several months have been very busy for Ivy (Nikki) Aleshire. Not only did she begin her junior year of nursing school at West Virginia Tech, she also competed on the cross county team. The team traveled to meets in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and North Carolina. At the conference championship which was held November 7 in Rio Grande, Ohio, Ivy finished third which qualified her to run in the NAIA nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 21, 2015. She was also named FIRST TEAM ALL CONFERENCE and won the NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR AWARD. Although she did not do as well at nationals as she wished, she did make Tech history by becoming the FIRST female runner to make it to nationals.
On January 16, 2016, Ivy traveled to Charleston, South Carolina to run in a half marathon. She finished first in her age group, fifth female overall, and thirty-fifth our of 2,682 runners. Her time was 1:29;09 which qualified her to run the NAIA marathon this May in Alabama. Nikki is ranked 8th on the qualifying list for NAIA marathon. She is the first female runner from West Virginia Tech to EVER qualify.
While accomplishing all of these athletic endeavors, Ivy also earned the distinction of making the Dean’s List ( a feat she has earned each semester of college).
Congratulations scholar athlete Ivy Aleshire, Well Done!!!
