The 2016 West Virginia candidate filing period began Monday, January 11, 2016, and the Secretary of State’s Office is webcasting live from both the Charleston and Fairmont offices.
The candidate filing period is when those wishing to run for many statewide and federal offices in 2016 can begin filing their paperwork and paying their filing fees. The period runs today through midnight on January 30.
The Secretary of State’s Office webcast page shows a list of the most recent candidate filings in real time. A full list of candidate filings is also available.
“In 2016, we have almost every office up for election so we’re ready for a very busy candidate filing period,” Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant said. “We are happy to continue to provide live webcasting so that West Virginians can see candidates file. This is a perfect example of open and transparent government and I hope that West Virginians will watch.”
To watch the live webcast and to see the continuously updated list of candidates, click on the link at the top of the Secretary of State’s webpage at www.wvsos.com.
The webcast page is available on mobile devices, such as iPad and iPhone. However, it is recommended viewers connect to a Wi-Fi signal due to the high quality of the webcast and its potential to consume large amounts of cellular data. When using a mobile device, users will have to choose between the Charleston or Fairmont video feed.
Candidate forms and filing fees must be accepted in a Secretary of State Office location or postmarked by midnight on January 30, 2016. The Secretary of State’s Office in Charleston will be open until midnight on Saturday, January 30.
