Sutton, WV – Retired Honorable Judge Danny Okes Cline, Sr., 77, of Sutton passed away November 30, 2015 at The Arbors Nursing Home in Gallipolis, Ohio after a long illness.
He was born January 1, 1938 in War Eagle, Mingo County, WV. The son of the late Toney E. & Clarice Okes Cline. Also preceding him in death were his sister; Diana Cline and brother; Dwain Cline.
He served in the U.S. Navy in 1955 until 1959. He was a graduate of Concord College in 1963, with A.B. in Political Science. He was awarded L.L. B. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1966. Danny began practicing law in Sutton, WV on April 1968. He was appointed Prosecuting Attorney of Braxton County in 1970 and served in that office until February 1980 when he was appointed Judge of the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court by then Governor Jay Rockefeller, III. There after he was elected and reelected during elections of 1980-1992. He continued working until retirement on January 1, 2001.
He was a loving and devoted father and husband; Surviving him are wife; Louise Ann Gross Cline whom he married on June 12, 1970, sons; Danny Cline, Jr and his wife Laura, of Lynchburg, VA, Charles Damon Cline & wife Polly of Roanoke, VA, daughter; Sarah Ann Cline and husband Siwa of Silver Spring, MD, brother; Damon Cline and wife Donnie of Charleston, WV, grandchild; Henry Cline.
Funeral services were held 11:00 am Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with the Rev. Bill Hopkins officiating and Judge Richard Facemire delivered the Eulogy. Burial followed at Barnett Cemetery, Sutton. Family received friends 6-8 pm Friday, December 4, 2015 at the funeral home.
