The season ended for the Panther football team on Friday night, and what a season it was. A season that was full of action down to the last minute of each game. This was also a bittersweet evening where fans said goodbye to the Seniors of not only the football team but the band as well. The band has been the awesome background music and a cheering section that could be heard for miles all season and has done a great job of entertaining the fans. The Panthers finished up 6-4 on the year with some great wins and tough losses. There wasn’t a game where the Panthers didn’t give full measure to their level of play; they went out and gutted out on every down. They are definitely a gang of brothers that left all they had on the gridiron, and they can hold their heads up for a season that will not be forgotten too soon in the hearts of football fans.
On a rainy, dreary evening they played host to the Webster County Highlanders for their final game. Coming off two impressive wins against Ravenswood and Calhoun, the Panthers were not about to give any ground to the Highlanders, especially on their own home turf. It was obvious from the start of the game the Panthers were in it to win. Webster kicked off, and it was the beginning of the end for the Highlanders. A hole was opened up for Zach Ahart, and if you have seen him run all year, you know if he hits open field a gazelle couldn’t catch him. He took it in for the first TD and the Panthers never looked back. The defense dug deep into the mud soaked field and held every inch of ground. The Highlanders made a couple great plays and scored, and they knew it was a feat to score against the Panthers.
It has indeed been a great year – not because they had a winning season but because they won as a gang of brothers and lost as a gang of brothers and in each game played until the last minute never giving in or giving up. The final score of the game Panthers 26, Highlanders 14. Congratulations to the players and coaches for an awesome season!
