The CCHS Panthers travelled to Sissonville to take on the Indians Friday night. The Panthers came in with all their weapons blazing and absolutely nothing to lose. This game would be a tough one for sure, but after the game against Roane, the Panthers were ready to throw some weight around. The Panthers drew first blood on the first drive of the game scoring on a long run by Zach Ahart. At this point early in the game, it appeared it would be all Clay County. The offensive line opened huge holes for the runners and gave quarterback Alex Grose time to throw the ball against a tough Sissonville defense. The Panthers looked as though they were going to upset Sissonville but Sissonville came back and scored making the score 6-7. It was a well played game by both teams and it came down to which team made the critical mistakes. It stayed 6-7 with Sissonville leading by one going into the half. With all of the Panther arsenal, they kept the Sissonville defense guessing. Sissonville added a TD early in the third quarter but missed the extra point.
Early in the fourth quarter Zach Ahart once again turned on the after burners and went yards for another TD but once again failed the extra point making the score 12-13 with Sissonville leading by 1. The Panthers were not done yet. With another chance, the Panthers got the ball back around mid field and had a great chance at scoring again, but an interception by Sissonville took the wind out of the sails. Panther defense once again held ground to try and get the ball back, but the Indians scored one more time making the game out of reach with the time that was left. Final score Clay 12, Sissonville 21. Simply put, the Panthers played a great game and have nothing to hang their head about. However, with that being said, my hat is off to the players and coaches of the CCHS Panther team. They played as hard as a team could play and have nothing to doubt themselves over. Next week’s game is away at Ravenswood. Let’s get behind the Panthers and come home with a win.
