The CCPIF league started its first round of playoffs this past Saturday and Sunday. First up it was the A team going up against the Frontier team from Ohio on the grid iron in Ritchie County. This game was a tough one, especially when you have to play two teams at once. I am not one that blames everything on refs or some other faction when we lose; if you play bad, you play bad. This wasn’t one of those games. It was one where your mouth hangs open in disbelief most of the time from penalties that weren’t called to penalties that were called but not given the proper yardage penalty. One such call – one of the A team Panthers was pulled down by the facemask and left lying on the ground writhing in pain, and the other team was assessed only five yards when it should have been 15. However, nothing can or will change the fact that the boys played a great game and gave it their best shot but came up just short. There is no team of officials that will get all of the calls all of the time. They’re only human. However, when a game is governed by what they see, well, they must have had blinders on. The A team will be back again next season to crack the whip. The C team also lost to Williamstown in a barn burner. So with A and C out, it was up to B team to get the job done. Done they did, the B team faced off against a tough Doddridge team. It was plain to see that B team was out to avenge the A and C teams. It was hard hitting and full of offensive action. Fans on both sides of the grass cheered their teams on a windy and cold afternoon. Zane Minger made the Doddridge line look confused with his cutbacks. The offensive line opened holes that a truck could drive through. Defensively they pulled out all the stops and allowed only one TD for the Doddridge squad. The final score was Clay B team 26 Doddridge County 6. This win advances the B team to the semi-finals this Saturday at Braxton County, a win there will get them into the Super Bowl.
