Well, volleyball fans, the Lady Panther team has started the season off with a road trip to Roane County in a quad match with four tough teams butting heads. Over the years there have been great rival games against Roane and Calhoun – always a war on the floor. They battled with Roane County and Calhoun County, both generally powerhouses in the sport of volleyball, along with Webster who is rebuilding a team. The Lady Panthers’ cannons were loaded, and they fired the kill shots in the opening game against Webster, defeating them two games in a row. Both games were dominated by the Lady Panthers to the score of 25-12. Roane County was next up, and with no love lost between the two teams at game time, it began.
The Lady Panthers had a tough time against an obviously geared up to beat Clay Lady Raider team. The girls went down in defeat in two straight games against the Lady Raiders, never getting a handle on the momentum. The loss was hard to take, but they turned it into something positive and didn’t let the defeat cook their goose. It was the Lady Red Devils up next, and it was redemption time for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Red Devils had just came off an upset win against Roane County so the Lady Panthers took it to the Calhoun by dropping some bombs and not making mistakes. However, the girls from Calhoun were not willing to go down easy. In the end, it didn’t matter as the Lady Panthers rolled to two straight wins, defeating Calhoun Lady Red Devils 25-20 and 25-13. The Lady Panthers will host Charleston Catholic High School on Tuesday night before beginning a five game road trip. The girls will be trying once again to gain glory at the state tournament so come out, catch a game and cheer them on.
