In October 1798 in a letter to the Militia of Massachusetts John Adams the 2nd president of the United States wrote: “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
Ronald Reagan. Our 40th President, in August 1984, said “We poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings. We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief. All are free to believe or not believe; all are free to practice a faith or not. But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions….Without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we’re one Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”
President John F. Kennedy in a speech given in February 1961 said “The guiding principle and prayer of this nation has been, is now, and shall ever be “In God We Trust.”
In 1917, Theodore Roosevelt, 26th president of the United stated: “Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”
General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in the Pacific during World War II, said in December 1951: “In this day of gathering storms, as moral deterioration of political power spreads its growing infection, it is essential that every spiritual force be mobilized to defend and preserve the religious base upon which this nation is founded; for it has been that base which has been the motivating impulse to our moral and national growth. History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual reawakening to overcome the moral lapse or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.”
President Thomas Jefferson 3rd president of the United States said: “God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.”
Today we are at a crossroads. Do we trust God and His Word or do we trust ourselves? A real study of our American History and its leaders shows us the path that is required for a nation to be truly blessed of God. Across this nation many are running from God. Their foundation is crumbling beneath their feet. Running to what? DISASTER! God gave us a choice.
Deuteronomy 30:19 says: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” God way, through His Word provides life and blessings. The other choice is cursing and hell. It is both an individual and a national decision. Your choice.
