Kingsville, OH – Walter F. Knight, 90, of Kingsville, OH, passed away Friday morning, August 21, 2015 at Geauga Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1925 in Sutton, West Virginia, and was the son of John and Cora (Gibson) Knight.
Walter was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. He was a coal miner for 10 years before moving to the area, where he worked as an equipment operator for Union Carbide.
He attended the Conneaut First Assembly of God, and was a member of the Widen Baptist Church in Sutton, W.V. He enjoyed listening to gospel music. Walter was a family man and always cared for his family.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Georgia (Ellis) Knight; his daughters Fran “Jeanie” Cottrell of Heaters, W.V., and Phyllis “Rags” Church of Fay, N.C.; grandsons Troy (Carol) Church of Fay, N.C., Russ Church of N.C., and Ray Diehl of W.V.; granddaughters Pam Anderson-Smith (Morris) of GA, and Rhonda (Troy) Keith of Northeast, PA; Georgianne Diehl of N.J., and Monica “Maggie” Church of N.C.; and 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Della (John) Westfall of Sutton, W.V., Dena (Barb) Knight of Ashtabula, OH, Charles (Marcella) Knight of OK, Eugene Knight of Ashtabula, OH, Lenoral (Letha) Knight of Richwood, W.V., Bernard (Judy) Knight of Austinburg, OH, Beulah Sawyer of Sutton, W.V., Linda (Paul) Cogar of Sutton, W.V., his brother-in-law Mack (Trish) Ellis of Conneaut, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Roy Knight, and Denver Knight; his sister Velma Knight; his grandsons Jamie Church and Chris Church; and two son-in-laws John Church and Newt Cottrell.
Funeral service was 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the First Assembly of God Church, 389 West Main Rd., Conneaut,OH with Rev. George Fink officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH, with military honors provided by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God. Envelopes will be available at the Church and also at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has been entrusted with arrangements.
