Well, football has begun its spiral towards the first game of the season for the CCPIF league. With the first week of physical preparation under the rug, out came the pads and helmets for the second week. Helmets were fitted and shoulder pads were strapped down as each player adjusted to the new weight that felt like chain mail on their frames. They would soon forget about this when it was hitting time.
As soon as everything was squared away, the coaches began the process of finding out what the athletes were made of. Drills and routine were the order of the day as fumble recovery, dummy hitting, passing, running and catching became the new life of many young athletes. This coming Saturday, the team will travel to Ritchie County for their first real head to head battle of the season. They are working real hard to be the best, as one coach said, and that was evident. I almost felt sorry for some of those dummies they were hitting; it was an all out assault. They ran plays like they had never stopped from last year and are improving on their technique every practice. They will be ready for Saturday.
The team has some of the best and caring coaches any team could have to guide these kids. They are tough but fair and work hard and play hard is the rule. Their first game at home will be against Gilmer on August 24th at 12, which will be the C and B teams, and on September 7th at 11 o’clock at Braxton all teams will play. Put these dates on your calendar, you won’t want to miss it. Also, the cheerleaders are smoking their routines getting set to raise the roof for their respective teams. They cheer as though their lungs were like train whistles and flip, stack, twirl, tumble, and smile as well as any on the grid. They work hard to bring excitement into their teams so don’t miss their routines.
