On Friday, May 29, 2015, the Lizemores Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service staged a Mock Accident at Lizemores Elementary to show the kids how dangerous it is to text and drive. Before the mock accident, the students gathered in the gymnasium and the LVFD Chief, Justin Elliott explained to the students that this was a fake accident but it is an example of something that can occur in real life. The LVFD performed just as they do in any real situation whether it is a car wreck, a house fire or any type of emergency that occurs. The mock accident was an ATV vs. motor vehicle accident caused by a drunk driver that was texting. There were two on the ATV who had pretty serious injuries because the driver of the motor vehicle was under the influence and wasn’t paying attention. Trooper Bass was on scene and he gave the driver, Missy Cottrell, a breathalyzer test and had to arrest her for being under the influence of alcohol and texting while driving. The ATV passengers, Ben Morton and Madison Miller, were transported in the ambulance to have their injuries tended to.
After the mock accident the kids got to cool off and have fun while the members of the fire department sprayed water from the fire trucks up in the air for them to play under. Jan Care came and gave out snow cones and Lizemores Elementary provided bags of popcorn for the kids to enjoy. The students, teachers and members of the LVFD have so much fun doing the mock accident every year. Thank you to all who participated in making the mock accident such a success!
