The Charleston Police Department (CPD) was hard at work over the Holiday weekend from May 23rd through May 25th on Work Zone Speed Enforcement.
CPD Officers worked overtime to enforce the current speed limit of 50 miles per hour in the work zone on I-64 in Charleston. During these patrols 110 speeding citations and 40 warnings were issued. Other violations cited include:
• 2 Cell Phone
• 3 Seat Belt
• 1 Child Restraint
• 7 No Proof of Insurance
Additionally, one arrest was made for DUI with a minor in the vehicle and two arrests were made for simple possession of K2 (synthetic marijuana).
The West Virginia Department of Transportation and the West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program funded the CPD officer’s overtime pay for this initiative.
The officers will continue their patrols to ensure that drivers comply with Work Zone Speed limits throughout the summer.
