Many residents of the Lizemores area attended Thursday’s public meeting

By Holly Nine

On Thursday, March 19, 2015, the Clay County PSD held a meeting with the residents of Independence Rd, Adonijah and Pack Fork in the Lizemores area of Clay County. The meeting was to sign residents up to receive public city water when the construction is in operation in early 2016. There were roughly 80 residents in attendance at the meeting.

The Engineer, Greg Belcher of Chapman Technical, had maps of the area and uses them to locate the resident’s homes and property. Most residents paid a $50 tap fee to avoid having to pay $300 for a tap after the line is installed. Since residents paid the $50 tap fee, all they have to pay later when the water is hooked up is the $100 deposit required by the Clay PSD that residents will receive after paying promptly for a 12 month period. If residents decide to not pay the $50 tap fee right now and decided later on after the project is finished that they want city water, residents will have to pay $300 to have a meter put in at their residence.

Terry Martin, Project Coordinator at Regional Intergovernmental Council, writes the grants and funds the monies for the project. Currently they have $1.5 million for the project which only covers about 75% of the project. Martin is writing a letter requesting a grant for $760,000 more, and could possibly ask for $700,000 in loan money. If you are a resident in the Adonijah or Pack Fork area and would like to pay the $50 tap fee, you need to do so before the final plans for the project are drawn up, which Martin stated would be within a 1 ½ month time frame. Papers that need to be filled out can be picked up at the Clay PSD and the tap fee of $50 can be paid there. Clay PSD’s phone number to contact for questions or concerns is (304) 587-7579.
