Sadly, after nearly twenty-two years on the job, Magistrate Mike King will no longer be serving Clay County. As of November 1, health issues have regretfully forced King to resign from the job he loved. “I hated to leave.” said King. “I’ve been battling my health for several months and it’s not getting any better, so I had to go.” Magistrate King always seems respectful, even-handed, mannerly and fair in his courtroom. Even though his day to day dealings consisted of cases that weren’t the most desirable, King always had a smile on his face and a polite hello to offer.
Acquaintances, friends and co-workers are saddened to see King’s reign as Magistrate come to an end. Magistrate Jeff Boggs was elected alongside Magistrate King more than two decades ago, and the pair took office together in January of 1993. “I am very appreciative that I’ve had the opportunity to work with Mike, he’s been a pleasure to work alongside. We have a good relationship and always strove to serve Clay County as a team. I hate to see Mike leave but I understand his health is preventing him from staying on the job. His presence, knowledge, and experience in the office will certainly be missed.”
Lieutenant Jeff Rider, a twenty-five year veteran of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, has been named as King’s replacement. Rider will officially take office on December 1, 2014.
