In a time of need, the true goodness in people shows. 20 month old Carson Brown, the son of Greg and Angela Fitzwater Brown of Maysel, was recently diagnosed with malignant optic nerve glioma (a tumor) and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Since Carson’s diagnosis, the Brown family has been overwhelmed with love and support from Clay County and abroad. The community has rallied together through prayers, donations, fundraisers and even the cold water challenge to offer their support of baby Carson. Although these fundraisers have been beneficial in helping the Brown family with expenses related to Carson’s treatment, the road to recovery is still long. Because of this, the Clay Health Department is overseeing a variety of events including the sale of t-shirts, bake sales and lunches to help during this difficult time. A Facebook site, #teamcarson, has been set up to keep those concerned about Carson’s progress up to date. If you would like to contribute, donations for Carson and his family can be made at the Clay Health Department or by mail to PO Box 36 Clay, WV 25043. Look for upcoming fundraisers in the near future and please keep the Brown family in your thoughts and prayers.
