Thursday night was homecoming for the CCMS Mustangs, and it proved to be another tough loss for the Mustangs. After the shellacking they took at the hands of the Bears last week, the Mustangs were primed to get back on the winning track. Webster came to Bradley Field with one thing on their mind – take the Mustangs down – and it was an all-out assault in the air and on the ground by the Highlanders. Giving credit where credit is due, the Mustangs went yard for yard with them on defense and offense and ultimately the team with the least mistakes would win.
On offense, it was an assault on the ground, and the Mustang defense put up a good wall but lacked the mortar to hold off the big plays. Highlander defense had about the same problems as Mustang offense got off some big plays.
The Mustangs’ fire wasn’t going away, and they fought hard until the end of the game. The Mustangs had some good plays but losing the ball became a problem and that’s what ultimately ended the game for the Mustangs.
The Highlanders went ahead of the Mustangs 28-24 on a long run late in the 4th quarter. The Mustangs got the ball back with mere minutes left in the game. They were pushing and had it close but gave the ball up on a fumble and time ran out for the Mustangs as they lost the game 28-24.
The Mustangs will get ready this week to butt heads with the Knights of Braxton on their turf this Thursday evening. They will need to bring their best air show and ground and pound to the field of Braxton. This game will be a much-needed win for the Mustangs after losing the last two. If you get the opportunity, get out and watch a good football team go head-to-head with some tough competition. Go Mustangs!
Thursday night was not all about football – it was homecoming, after all, and the red carpet was rolled out for CCMS royalty. It was a queen’s night at Bradley Field, a night for the crowning of the new 2026 Football Homecoming Queen. CCMS cheerleaders got busy lining up in formation to welcome the 8th grade princess to the field – Sadie Bird escorted by Carson Brown, Sadie Cliver escorted by Ashton Utt, Sariah Dozer escorted by Hinton Caldwell, Brooklyn Johnston escorted by Christopher Elswick and Emma Taylor escorted by Zayne Peck – as fans cheered for each young lady announced.
Seventh grade princesses joined the queen candidates as ladies in waiting. Paisley Adkins was escorted by Geary Smith, Ayva Holcomb was escorted by Deric Cunningham, and Aubree Truman was escorted by Matthew Drake. All these young ladies and their escorts represented CCMS very well.
As they stood in anticipation, the announcement was made and the 2026 CCMS Football Homecoming Queen is Sadie Bird. Principal Leslie Goe placed the crown on her head as family and friends cheered. Sadie will no doubt be a queen that represents the school well. Congratulations to Queen Bird and her court.
