The CCMS Mustangs traveled to Summersville on Thursday night to take on the Bears. Last year was one kind of game and this year was another, and it would prove to be a tough road to haul the bean on. It was a beautiful night for football – the air was crisp and hot and the stands were partially full of screaming fans as the teams took the field. The Bears looked bigger and faster than in the past, and they brought the fight. The game began and it looked like it was going to be a defensive game from the start; both teams were cracking helmets and digging deep in the first seconds of the game. However, the Bears were first on the board scoring on runs, passes and interceptions.
The Mustangs offense struggled to get anywhere near a possible score as the Bear defense rolled through the offensive line and put a lot of pressure on the Mustang QB. The Mustangs looked like they were playing with a greasy football as they struggled like baby buffalo in a river.
Not sure what kind of voodoo hit the Mustangs on this night, but it sure did. This Mustang team is a good team with a lot of talent, but it left the building like Elvis against the Bears.
At the half, the score stood at Mustangs 0, Bears 54. There was talk about throwing in the towel for the second half but that’s not Mustang style football.
The Bears came out in the third quarter and drew more blood as the clock was shortened to four minutes per quarter and allowed to run. By the time it was over the Mustangs lost the game 0-62. There may have been some tough calls on the field like there usually are, but truthfully, the Mustangs had a rough night of football.
The Mustangs will be in action again this week at home against Webster for homecoming night on Thursday. The Mustangs should be foaming at the mouth like rabid dogs to get the win after this. Webster better come with a lot of band aids; they are going to need them. Game time is 6:30 p.m. with homecoming coronation at halftime.
