The Clay County Board of Education held it regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, August 18, 2014. One day before school started teachers and custodians were still being placed. Linda Scott, Delno Coen, and Teresa Reynolds all voluntarily resigned their positions in the county school system. Jamie Tanner takes former teacher Mike Kearns’ position at the high school. Sara Linger will become a pre-school teacher at Big Otter pending her certification. Clay Elementary still needs a 5th grade teacher. Morgan Cottrell and John Pruitt, pending their certifications, will be substitute teachers for the 2014-2015 school year. Christy Fitzwater will be the Assistant Girls Basketball Coach for the high school girls. Damon Grose will be stepping in as Assistant Football Coach at the high school. Brittney George, Cheyanne George, Hayley Ramsey, Molly Bragg, Levi Morgan, and Anna Morgan are all students that have transferred from other county schools to our school system.
After all the placing of students, teachers, and custodians, the discussion went to the start of random drug testing for our local high school students. The drug testing will educate students about what life will be like in the work place after their high school years. Not all students will be tested for drugs; only the students that drive to school, athletes and students involved in extra-curricular activities. This program is initiated with high hopes of a better community. The next regular scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
