CCHS shuttle hurdle team shines at states; Lady Panthers wear gold for the first time. For the first time in school history the Lady Panthers strapped on some metal at the AA state track championship held in Charleston this past week. The 4×800 team consisting of McKinley Mahan, Ali Seward, Abigail Grandon and Sophia Berberich placed 7th overall. These girls have been in the hunt all season and have proved themselves as the 7th ranked 4×800 team in this state. This feat is a rare accomplishment considering the track team has no track to practice on.
The 110-meter hurdle team consisting of Evan Bass, Daymian Stricker, Justin Nida and Tilyr Bird also ran their way into the all time best placing 4thteam in the race. They, too, will be wearing metal for the first time. Also, Evan Bass placed 4th in the 110-meter hurdles in his last season and last race as a Panther.
All in all, this has been a great season for CCHS track although the sport never gets the recognition that it deserves; these Panther athletes have put track on the map at CCHS. Congratulations to these athletes for gutting out the season and becoming some of the best.
