The only Swan Lake in West Virginia with a full live orchestra

The Charleston Ballet is delighted to welcome two accomplished guest artists from American Ballet Theatre for its highly anticipated production of Swan Lake. Performances will be held on Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at the Maier Performance Hall, inside the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences.

The company is honored to present guest performances by Alejandro Valera Outlaw and Kyra Coco, two rising stars whose international training and dynamic stage presence will bring exceptional artistry to this beloved classical ballet.

Alejandro Valera Outlaw, born in Madrid, Spain, began his dance training at a local ballet school before joining El Real Conservatorio Professional de Danza Mariemma, participating in national competitions and winning several awards and scholarships. After attending The Royal Ballet School Summer Intensive, he trained at The Royal Ballet School from 2018-2021. While at The Royal Ballet School, he won awards for his progress in classical ballet training and his degree dissertation in Classical Ballet and Dance Performance. He performed at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Youth Winter Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland, as well as in works by Goto Montero and Frederick Ashton. He received The Ballet Association Award in 2020. Valera Outlaw joined ABT Studio Company in September 2021, became an apprentice with the main Company in November 2023, and joined the corps de ballet in January 2024. His repertoire includes a featured role in In the Upper Room as well as roles in all the Company’s full-length ballets. ABT is grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Austin T. Fragomen for supporting the Dancer Fund in honor of Alejandro Valera Outlaw.

Kyra Coco, a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, Kyra Coco began her dance training at the age of three at Ballet Virginia, where she trained until she was 15. She competed at the Youth America Grand Prix at the age of nine, going on to compete in the New York Finals. She later competed at YAGP at the age of 14, placing Top 12 in both the contemporary and classical categories. After attending summer programs with Houston Ballet on a full scholarship, Coco attended Houston Ballet Academy as a full scholarship student from 2018 to 2020.

Step into an enchanted world where Swan Lake becomes more than a performance; it becomes an experience you can’t afford to miss. For two performances only, Charleston Ballet will join forces with extraordinary guest artists from national ballet companies, accompanied live by the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, to create a production unlike anything seen before in the region. From the first mesmerizing notes of Tchaikovsky’s score to the final breathtaking movement, every moment is designed to captivate, transport, and leave you in awe. This Swan Lake is a rare, magical event where world-class talent comes together in Charleston to create something truly spectacular. Don’t just hear about it, be there to witness it.

Tickets start at $27 for adults and $14 for children under 12, and are available through the Clay Center Box Office at 304-561-3570. Ticket prices may vary and can also be purchased online at secure.theclaycenter.org.
