To update the Mustangs season – they met their demise this past week as they came face to face with a juggernaut as they took on the Knights of Braxton County. Every time these two teams meet, it promises to be a barn burner.
At the end of the first half of play, the Knights were up on the Mustangs and had the momentum going into the second half. In the second half, the Mustangs fought hard but had a difficult time getting points. The Mustangs tried to keep it close, but the Knights took off and didn’t look back. When the smoke cleared, it was the Knights on top 40-26. The Mustangs will be at home against Richwood on Wednesday evening as their season comes to an end.
The Lady Mustangs are playing as though they are barking up a championship tree. They look as if they cannot be stopped on the courts. They were in matches against Richwood and Calhoun last week. In the match against Richwood, it turned out to be nothing short of a massacre. The final score was a picnic as the Lady Mustangs beat them 46-22.
Next on the chopping block was Calhoun which turned out to be a defensive game as getting shots to fall was like winning the lottery. The Mustangs came out on top in the slugfest and won the game 27-20. The girls will butt heads with Spencer at home on Thursday night for the end of regular season play.
On Monday of the following week, the Lady Mustangs will host South Harrison in the first round of playoffs. The boys’ team will face Braxton or Summersville in the first round, but that date has yet to be set. Come out and catch the games before the season ends. Also, the Mustang wrestling team will have their final match at the CWVAC championship at Spencer on Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
