The Lady Mustangs met their waterloo this past week as they took on the Lady Bears of Summersville Middle and came face to face with a juggernaut. Every time these two teams meet, it promises to be a barn burner.

At the end of the first half of play, the Lady Mustangs were net for net with the Lady Bears. If you like a defensive game, this was a game to be at. The Lady Mustangs didn’t let the pre-game hype intimidate them. They were all over the Lady Bears in the first half and held them to a baseball score of 11 points.

Offensively, the Lady Mustangs had their own troubles burning the net and grabbing some points for their side, so it stayed a defensive grudge match most of the game. The Lady Bears’ coaches had a tough time figuring out the Lady Mustang hustle and had to cancel dinner plans. At the half it was the Lady Mustangs just under the Lady Bears 10-11.

After halftime the Lady Bears turned on the fan and the Lady Mustangs couldn’t catch a break. The fouls were called a little lop sided as the Lady Bears got many chances for a free line shot, and this was the turning point of the game. This combined with the Lady Mustangs having net issues gave the game to the Lady Bears as the final score topped out at Lady Mustangs 14, Lady Bears 24.

Foul stats were Lady Mustangs 21, Lady Bears 5. It looked like the Lady Mustangs had a chance late in the game, but foul trouble held them in check. These two teams will meet again on January 20th at home, and I would speculate they will not come in on Mustang pasture and stomp it to mud.

The Lady Mustangs will be ready and waiting, and if the basketball bounces right, it will be a game you won’t want to miss. The Lady Mustangs will be back in action the day after Christmas as they travel to Eastern Greenbrier Middle School. Go Lady Mustangs!
