It was like watching a rhino use toenail clippers Friday night as the Panthers hosted the Red Devils of Calhoun; fun to watch, but in the end, you knew the clippers would lose. The Red Devils were spitting out flames from their pitchforks as they were pounded into dust particles as the Panthers kicked some Devil butt and took names on the grid iron.
The Panthers went down the middle, ran the perimeter, passed, caught, blocked, tackled and defended, scoring 35 of their 56 points by half time. The game was pretty much like a wagon wheel over a marshmallow. Simply put, the Panther football team is becoming a force to be reckoned with. After a tough loss against Logan, the Panthers seem to have scratched all their itches and were in tune with the game, using their strengths and skills. The Red Devils simply couldn’t get the ball anywhere with the Panthers defense digging deep and stopping any advance.
Once the Red Devils threw in the towel, the final score of the game was Panthers 56 Red Devils 0. It was another good win for the Panthers as they move to 4-3 on the season. Their season now gets into a stretch of games that SHOULD be easy wins for the Panthers. However, one never knows what team will show up on the field against the Panthers on any night, so easy wins are only easy after a team has won. They will take their show on the road to Poca this Friday night and will have a bye according to the schedule. The last game will be against Braxton on the 7th of November. Go Panthers!
Friday night was not all about football – it was homecoming, after all, and the red carpet was rolled out for CCHS royalty. It was a queen’s night in Clay County, a night for the crowning of a new football homecoming queen. The CCHS band and cheerleaders, dressed in their finest, got busy lining up in formation to welcome the new queen to the field to the cheering of her fans. Alexus Morgan Diaz, 2025 Football Homecoming Queen, strode across the field with the confidence and poise of royalty to accept her crown as CCHS principal Angela Nichols placed it on her head. She will no doubt be a people’s queen that represents the school well. Alelxus’s escort was Cameron Nelson, her crown bearer was Annalie Kiser daughter of Mike and Josselyn Kiser and escort was Kyson Diaz, the son of Lateen Diaz.
Congratulations to Queen Alexus and the rest of her court. Freshman Princess Kacey Dawn Peck was escorted by Jaxson Blankenship. Sophomore Princess Jayda Woods was escorted by Tucker Moore. Junior Princess Kristina Belt was escorted by Javien Faulkner and Senior Princess Cierra Shyann Barss was escorted by Jaxon Gross.
They all represented CCHS and their families well. Once again congratulations to the queen and her court.
