Thanks to the determination of one area woman, plans are underway for Clay to have a new animal rescue. “Buddy’s Place” is in the works to be open by the start of next month, if everything goes to plan.
Leslie Garabedian, who is originally from Long Island, says that she felt driven to open a non-profit to help area animals. “I want it to be available to these strays,” she said after purchasing a property on Hartland Road that she hopes will soon be able to house stray animals and ones available for adoption. While she is still in the process of building, she is exploring funding sources for support. She is currently waiting for her non-profit status to be processed through the proper channels, and is limited to accepting just two dogs at a time until that filing is complete. Once the non-profit status is approved, she hopes to get grants to provide spay and neuter services, vaccines, and other vet care.
Expect to see a booth next week set up at the Clay County Golden Delicious Apple Festival with homemade dog treats for sale, and a raffle for fundraising. Everyone is welcome to come by and talk with Leslie and other volunteers to get more information about the rescue, and to make a donationor a purchase for the cause.
A grand opening of the rescue is planned for October 1 of this year. Follow “Buddy’s Place Animal Rescue” on Facebook for the most up-to-date information. On their Facebook is a link to their GoFundMe campaign, and other information.
