The CCMS Mustangs opened their season Thursday night on the road against George Washington Middle. The Mustangs are on a rebuild year with many of the players being inexperienced. Last year the Mustangs played one of the best championship games against Braxton that has ever been played. Most of those Mustang players moved up to the Panther team and are causing havoc on the JV team as well as the Varsity team. However, it’s a new sun and a new horizon for the Mustangs as they rebuild their team. It’s a big piece of meatloaf to swallow for new head coach Mike Kiser, but you must trust the process. This game was a tough one for the Mustangs, to say the least.
The running game of George Washington Middle was the piece of straw that broke the Mustangs’ back as the Mustangs found it difficult to stop their running game, and GW racked up the points in the first half. Moving the ball offensively was equally as difficult for the Mustangs except for one Mustang touchdown that kept the fire burning late in the game. However, once the Mustangs got their head in the game, and the cobwebs out of their helmet, they started to get down to business and kept the game respectable.
The final score was 8-46, George Washington. It will take a while, but the Mustangs will be back to their glory days soon. The Mustangs only have two home games this season since the million-dollar field gets its final touches. Next week, the Mustangs will be on the road once again at Sherman on September 11th. Their home opener will be on September 25th against South Harrison. Get out and catch a game. Go Mustangs!
