The June Citizen of the Month is Michael R. Scott of Maysel. Mike, the son of the late Kenneth and Mildred Scott, is a lifelong Clay County resident who has dedicated his life to serving others and volunteering in the community. He is a 40 plus year member of the Clay Volunteer Fire Department, currently serving as Station 20 Chief. Mike also serves as President of the Library’s 614 Supporters. He is an appreciated volunteer of the Elk River Fest helping with everything from cleaning the old IGA parking lot to taking charge of the canoe/kayak race, to running for the inaugural “Mr. Bottom Feeder”.
Mike is quiet and unassuming, but can always be counted on to do whatever he says he will do. He has been employed with AEP for over 30 years, working countless hours and through many storms to help keep power and get power restored to the people in his area. It is our experience that true leaders will lead by example, and Mike does just that. He is very active in his church and faithful in his service by going on multiple mission trips out of the country. He allows the light of God to shine through not just in his testimony, but in the way he lives his life.
Mike is not a man of many words, but what he says you can trust. Spend any time with him at all, and you will know his pride and joy is his family. He and his beautiful wife Stephanie have been married for 34 years. They have 3 beautiful children, Heather, Jonathan, and Shannon and one delightful grandson, Trenton.
