As we approach our 25th year of championing artists and creative entrepreneurs across the Mountain State, Tamarack Foundation for the Arts is proud to announce its rebrand as the West Virginia Creative Network—a name that defines who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re headed.
What began as an organization primarily focused on visual arts has evolved into something more expansive, more inclusive, and more responsive to the real needs of creatives in West Virginia. With this rebrand, we’re sharpening our focus. Our mission: to build a vibrant and prosperous arts community through resources, connection, and advocacy.
We envision a West Virginia where art is woven into everyday life—and where creatives are recognized not just for their cultural contributions, but as powerful drivers of economic growth and community development. Artists and creative businesses are key to revitalization and fueling local economies through cross-sector collaborations. This rebrand has been guided by that vision, offering a clear path forward as we expand our programming to include more artists while continuing to offer professional development, creative entrepreneurship support, and more.”At the heart of the West Virginia Creative Network is a belief that artists matter. We champion their work, their labor, and their lived experiences,” said WVCN Executive Director, Renee Margocee. “We’ve sharpened our focus to support those who need us most—helping creatives thrive not just as artists, but as entrepreneurs and changemakers. We’ve seen firsthand the economic and cultural value creatives bring to our state, and we’re here to make sure they’re supported in doing it.”
WVCN Board President Susan Economou echoed this commitment, adding, “West Virginia has a rich history of art and craft deeply rooted in its Appalachian heritage. Building connections between artists and providing support to them wherever they are on their creative path is vital—not only in preserving our cultural heritage, but also in advancing the arts economy of the future. The Board of the West Virginia Creative Network recognizes the value of creatives as drivers of community development and is here to help them realize their aspirations and champion their work.”
At the heart of the West Virginia Creative Network is a belief that artists matter. We champion their work, their labor, and their lived experiences. We have built and will continue to foster a community where every creative—no matter their medium, background, or career stage—feels a true sense of belonging. And we advocate for a future where the value of artistic labor is understood, respected, and compensated.
