The April 28 regular meeting of the Clay County Commission was short, but full of interesting news. This comes a week after the commission and other Clay County entities held a Clean Up Day across from Pierson Lumber, where as many as a thousand vehicles brought junk from all over the county for disposal or recycling. And that was after two days of Clay County groups, including the Clay County High School, canvassing main roads to pick up trash and bag it, which was collected a day later by DOH trucks.
All three commissioners were present for the meeting: David Schoolcraft; President Joyce Johnson, and Duane Legg. They took care of routine business, approving previous minutes, bills, purchase orders, revisions, and erroneous assessments.
The Commission accepted the resignation of Debora Salsgiver with the Business Development Authority and appointed all the following members to the Parks and Recreation Board: Angela Brown, Brian Moore, David Schoolcraft, Sarah Bird, Doug Wayne, Brian Stewart, Jonathan Frame, and Kessel Lilly.
The Commission resolved invoices for work on the Judicial Annex that is coming along. They also approved a change in the Public Employee Insurance Agency Plan for County Employees from Plan A to Plan C, a plan with higher deductibles so that they could continue to offer insurance to the county.
One Harrison resident addressed the Commission to ask about possible water projects into Harrison. Duane Legg said that extending Clay water projects into Harrison was impossible at this time, but that Birch River water projects were closer and offered to contact Birch River about the possibility of bringing water into Harrison.
