Congratulations to Elizabeth Sloan, the winner of the Clay County Library Quilt Raffle. The drawing was held on April 16. The quilt had been offered voluntarily to the Clay County Library by the local quilting group Quilts Under Construction for the library’s annual fundraising event. They collected little over $1,000, and anyone who saw the quilt hanging in the library was more than willing to spend a dollar for a raffle ticket on the beautiful thematic quilt. The quilt resembles a library case with multiple shelves, and on the shelves are various patches that represent books of every size color and description with a vase or bookends thrown in randomly. It is a very beautiful and unique quilt well worth hundreds of dollars if purchased.
The library wanted to thank the quilting group that put this beautiful quilt together as well as every single person that purchased a ticket in hopes of winning. All proceeds will majorly help out the library. They absolutely loved having this quilt proudly on display for all to see the wonderful craftsmanship that was put into it.
Quilts Under Construction members who conceived and worked on this unique piece of artwork were Cheryl Moore, Debra Saulsgiver, Sherry Ortiz and Rita Salisbury. Cheryl Moore did the longarm quilting and Renee’s Fabric Shop next door to the library donated the backing.
Sherry Ortiz added that anyone willing to share time and effort in future project quilts can join the quilting guild and they meet the first and third Saturday of every month. The Guild meets at the 4-H Extension Office in Two Run. You can call them at 304-587-4267.
