Well, the CCMS track team was at Roane County for the Roane County Challenge on April 26, and let’s just say that the title needs changed to the Mustang Thumpin’. The Mustangs tore up the field, and both the Lady Mustang and Mustang teams dominated the events. They proved once again that the Mustangs are a force and not just a team. As a matter of fact, the Mustangs sent some of the teams home dragging their jaws and wondering what just happened. I’ll tell you what happened, the CCMS teams were told to “git ‘er done,” and they did it.
It was a Mustang barn dance, and the track members answered the call, taking no quarter and not giving any either. They just went out like you would expect them to and gave one hundred ten percent to win every time they ran, jumped or threw. Under the leadership of head coach Matt Stricker, the team has made great advances this season and set the bar high for next year’s team to reach.
In this matchup, the boys were led by Tilyr Bird who was first in the Long Jump, the 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meter hurdles. Jackson Stricker was first in the pole vault and third in the 400 meter run. The 4×100, 4×200 and 4×800 meter relay teams all took first. Bret Smith was second in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter runs. Jackson Bass was first in the disc and fourth in the shot put. Gabe Metheney was third in the shot put. Cole Boggs was first in the high jump, third in the 200 meter and fifth in the 400 meter. Jacob Vance was third in the 400 meter, Canaan Payton was fourth in the 100 meter and Caleb Robinson was third in the 100 meter and second in the shot put.
The Lady Mustangs was hitting the pavement led by Marissa Atha placing first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs – the girl is a long distance queen. Hayden Rogers was fourth in the 100 meter and Tara Conley was third in the 1600 meter. Miranda Morris was third in the 800 meter and Savannah Neal was fourth in the discus. The 4×100 meter and the 4×200 meter teams were both first. Natalie Tanner took first in the 100 meter hurdles, 2nd in the 200 meter hurdles and second in the high jump. Laney McKinney was second in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Maddy Schoonover was first in the shot put and third in the discus. CCMS track is on the move to greatness. The entire team gives track fans that show up their money’s worth while setting the Mustang name in stone as a team to beat.
