The Panther track team traveled to Roane County for the LKC Challenge on April 22nd and was packing bull whips. Seven teams from around the area competed in all the events. The Panthers have been enjoying some great competition at meets this season, but they stepped up to the all you can eat buffet this week. The boys kicked some big buffalo against some top teams getting the job done and placing first overall in the event. The Panthers are tops in some of the events, and to be able to do this with no real track to practice on shows absolute grit. The Lady Panther team placed third and is the same – kicking some butt and doing it with poetic precision – who also have no place to practice. Clay County youth show exceptional abilities; imagine if they just had a place to practice their events; I believe there would be a bunch of state champions. However, they get by and still get the job done. They just seem to get better and better with each meet.
For the boys, it was Evan Bass placing second in the long jump, third in the high jump, was part of the first place shuttle team and second in the 110 meter hurdles. Seth Robinson was second in the 100 meter; Kaden Fitzwater was third in the 1600 meter and fourth in the 3200 meter. Justin Nida was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles, and the 4×100 team was fourth, the 4×200, team was third and the 4x400team was third. Brody Scarbro was third in the discus, and Daymian Stricker was second in the high jump. For the girls, Cheyanne Taylor was second in the 3200 meter and fourth in the 1600 meter runs. Abigail Grandon was third in the 1600 meter and third in the 3200 meter. Jayda Stricker was third in the 100 meter hurdles, third in the 300 meter hurdles and fifth in the high jump. The 4×100 meter and the 4×200 meter relay teams placed fourth, and the 4×400 meter and the 4×800 meter teams placed second. Xena Legg placed second in the shot put.
The CCHS track team continues to grow into a force on the track. They will be travelling to Phillip Barbour on Wednesday evening with a start time of 4:00 PM. If you like good running, you will not want to miss the CCHS track team. Go Panthers!
