Harry Thomas Jerrell, known to most as Tate, 76 years old of Leatherwood but Gobblers Knob to him, passed away on March 21, 2025, surrounded by family. He was a Korean War Veteran and avid member of the UMWA. He attended Lick Fork Baptist.
He was proceeded in death by infant son Wesley Thomas Jerrell, Mother Elizabeth Jerrell of Jonesville, Virginia, brother Lee Jerrell of Jonesville, Virginia, sister Margret Hansbarger of Ohio, son in law Donnie Wayne, and grandson Gage Stewart of Twenty Mile.
He leaves behind to carry on his memory the love of his life his wife, Kris Jerrell. His sisters Audrey Smith (Ronnie) of Jonesville, VA Della Rubes (Jim) Northfield, Ohio. Daughters Deena Stewart of Twenty Mile and Hayley (Jamie) Peters of Boomer, four sons Jonathan (Crystal)Boggs of Harnett County, NC, Christopher (Mereaha) Boggs of Chesapeake, WV, Andrew (Demi) Boggs of Maysel, WV, Bryan Boggs of Parkersburg, WV and many others. Tate had 13 grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Jayden Chapman, Ryley Chapman, Brier Stewart, Maddie Wayne, Kayleen Boggs, Jace Boggs, Braxton Boggs, Jamison Boggs, Delanie Boggs, Titus (Tuffy) Boggs, Kolten Tincher, and Ella Tincher. One great grandson Waylan Findley Any chance he would get he would tell you all about each of them and how proud he was to call them his.
In his prime, Tate was an avid outdoorsman and as he got older, he enjoyed long rides through the mountains. If he wasn’t on the porch with his coffee, then you could find him in his spot on the couch watching the wildlife and the sunset through the window.
Tate was the kind of man who loved fiercely and unconditionally and when he loved he loved with his whole heart. His girls were his pride, his boys were his strength, and his family was his whole world. He always had a listening ear when you needed it and the right words to say.
His daughter, Hayley remembers he taught them about hard work, kindness, and how to stand tall no matter what life threw their way. Whether it was through his bear hugs, his words of wisdom, or his contagious laughter, or his funny dance moves, he had a way of making life feel a little easier, a little brighter.
The Jerrell family would like to thank Lick Fork Church, Tiny & Janet Johnson, Rodney Wayne and all of his Union Brothers for their unending friendship. He loved his brothers-in-law like brothers Dale, Brent and Jeff Morris. Thank you to the hospice nurses, Dr Jamie and Sandy Metz and Summerville Hospital for their quality of care they have shown over the years. Clay Ambulance and Clay Fire Department for all their help.
In lieu of flowers the family ask to make donations to Feed the Children or The Homeless Veterans.
Funeral service was at 6:00 pm, Thursday March 27, 2025, at Local Union Hall #8843, 3291 Cannelton Hollow Road, Cannelton, WV 25036 with Naaman Moore officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Tate left specific instructions that he was to be cremated, and his ashes scattered back home in Jonesville, VA
