As of November 2013, around 47 million Americans depend on SNAP EBT benefits (Food Stamps). However, not many individuals use their benefits to purchase food seed and plants. The SNAP program allows recipients to purchase these items to plant in their own home gardens. Planting your own fruits and vegetables provides a greater return on your purchase. Additionally, fresh produce provides increased nutritional value to you and your family.
The great news is that here in Clay County our farmer’s market will be opening June 14, 2014 in the Courthouse Square and will be open every Saturday from 9am-1pm. The Clay Farmer’s Market accepts cash, SNAP, Senior and WIC Vouchers. This summer do something healthy and wise with your benefits and use them at the farmer’s market.
