It was celebration night for the CCMS Mustangs as they butted heads with the Bears of Summersville. The Mustangs continued their dominating ground and pound style of football by smearing the gravy of the Bears. Every time these two teams meet, it is usually a really tough game. Not this year, however; this time it was all Mustang ground shaking defense and butter smooth offense. This game was like taking the peel off a banana.
The Mustangs ground game, combined with superb blocking from the front line, took the game to the next level. The Bears just couldn’t overcome the push of the Mustangs. The Mustangs got on the boards quick in the first quarter by scoring 14 points, and before the half was over, they racked up a 28 -0 lead over the Bears. It didn’t slow them down either. When the dust settled, the Mustangs were on top by the score of 42-6. This win gives them some great momentum going into next week’s game against South Harrison, and a win against them is like winning the Super Bowl.
Once again, the offensive line of the Mustangs controlled the defensive line of the Bears and opened up some big holes for runners Caleb Robinson and Collin Elliot. Robinson moved the ball down the field like a tank and kept the defense of the Bears guessing. John Paxton is at the helm as quarterback for the Mustangs. He makes very few mistakes and has a good arm in the pocket or on the run. Mustang offense has a good arsenal and can beat anybody. Their defense is tremendous against the run and any QB movement, and when they hit, they hit. There are still a lot of games left before the championship and nary a one will be taken lightly. This night wasn’t just about the offense – the defense had game as well. The defense held the Bears offense to nothing until they scored early in the 3rd quarter as the Mustangs gave up an early Christmas present.
Mustang defense proved once again that if you’re going to run against them, be prepared to lose. The Mustangs go up against South Harrison this Thursday night on the road with game time at 6:00PM.
