CCHS Hall of Fame golf tournament and induction ceremony to be held soon

It’s time once again for the Clay County Schools Hall of Fame organization to hold their annual golf tournament and follow that up with the Hall Of Fame ceremony.  This year’s tournament will be held at the Edgewood Country Club on Friday Sept. 20, and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held the following day, Sept. 21, during the Golden Delicious Apple Festival.  Registration for the golf tournament will be at 8 a.m. on Sept. 20, and at 9 a.m. sharp, the shotgun start will begin. The tournament will be a two man scramble format.  There is an $80 entry fee with prizes being awarded for winning team, closest to pins, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.

Every year some of the best and worst golfers come to compete in the event, and it is always a good time.  There are no prizes for who throws their club the farthest, for who can manipulate a cart through a sand trap, or for the greatest number golf balls it took to play nine holes. At one tournament, a golfer was said to have commented that his game was so bad that day he would have to get his ball retriever regripped.  Alas, the course is not the easiest one to play. At Edgewood, a golfer can lose balls in the ball washer.  Win or not, this will be a great day of supporting the CCS Hall of Fame tradition. So, if you think you have what it takes to take on the best, give Larry Gillespie a call at 304-444-2530, Greg Gency at 304-587-7397, Trey Corwell at 304-380-4609, Jerry Linkinoggor at 304-651-4656, or Craig Berner 304-343-5557. If you would like to sponsor a hole, the cost is $100.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.  The Clay County Schools Hall of Fame recognizes the best of the best who have played sports at CCHS and have went on to have great impact in today’s society.  Those being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year are Trevor Armes, a two time state champion in the 400 meter, Jarod Douglas, Frank Kleman, Jaycee Markle Huffman and David Sizemore, all of whom have demonstrated great dedication to their sport.  The Alumni dinner will be held soon after; all are welcome to attend the events.
