The CCMS Mustangs opened up their baseball season at home going up against a tough Yellow Jacket team from Spencer. Joel Elliot took to the mound to begin the showdown, and the heat started flying. The Mustangs were on the board first and never looked back as the bats started splintering. Joel went four innings, allowing just one lucky hit and striking out eight batters, then switched positions with Pierce Adkins who was catching. Pierce began teaching English to the Yellow Jackets, and they never did get the hang of it as Adkins went on to strike out all nine batters he faced. The Mustang fielders didn’t have much of a chance to warm up as the Yellow Jackets mustered little offense.
When the game was over, the Mustangs beat the Yellow Jackets 6-0. Big bats in the game were Pierce Adkins with two hits, one run and two RBI’s followed by Lathan Brown with three hits and two runs and Collin Elliot with two hits, one run and one RBI. Joel Elliot also had three hits and two RBIs. This game was a good season opener for the Mustangs. The next game will be Monday night at home against Braxton and then Valley on their turf on Wednesday. Baseball is a game full of bursts of action and intense, edgy moments. If you want to see this for yourself, get to one of the Mustang’s baseball games; they have already kicked some butt and the season has just begun. The Mustang bats are fired up and swinging for the fences. You will not want to miss a minute of it.
