Senator Doug Facemire and Senator Sam Cann were in Clay Wednesday to attend the County Commission meeting and present a grant to the group. The plea for this particular grant, made by Emergency Service Director Greg Fitzwater, calls for funding to purchase smoke detectors for homes within Clay County. Although the total amount of money needed has not yet been awarded, the Senators were able to present the County Commission with $11,250.00 in grant money. These funds will be used to purchase smoke detectors, distribute them to elementary school children, and help with installation of the these alarms within their homes if needed. Director Fitzwater hopes the equipment will be ready for distribution my Fire Prevention Week in October.
