The CCHS Lady Panthers hosted the lady Eagles of Braxton this past week. It was definitely a kiss a booboo night for the Lady Eagles. They always like to come to our home turf and attempt to take us down, but it was not to be this week. The Lady Panthers were well prepared for the game and had the spit ready to shish kabob some Eagles. The Lady Panthers made very few mistakes which, in the game of volleyball, usually determine the fate of a team. The Lady Eagles came out swinging but got their feathers plucked for their efforts. The Lady Panthers put an end to their offense and settled into the task of sending them packing. It was a best of three out of five matchup and bragging rights until their next matchup. The CCHS pit let their hair down and showed no mercy cheering for the Lady Panthers. All the Lady Panthers looked as though their skills were set, oiled and greased for the rest of the season after the loss in their season opener. Some of the big guns returned from last year packing some pretty good powder. Most of the girls have the leaping ability of a deer and, at the
height of their jump, can bring a volleyball down with a vicious swing of their gun arm, giving this team a unique opportunity to win games. Most volleyball teams have a good hitter they go to when they need a volleyball crushed into the back field of the opposite team. Well, let’s just say that the Lady Panthers have more than one, and this will keep the other side guessing for sure. Not only do the Lady Panthers have a kill line, they also have girls that can play some tough defense. These ladies do not care to throw their bodies onto the floor to save the shot. When this game was over it was the Lady Panthers winning in three games 25-10, 25-15, and 25-10. They will be back in action on September 5th at home to take on the Lady Red Devils of Calhoun; it should be a good game.
In other sports news, it was the season opener on Thursday night for the CCMS Mustangs. They dominated the grid iron to defeat Buffalo 40-6. The Mustangs ground game, combined with superb blocking from the front line, took the game to the next level. Buffalo just couldn’t overcome the defense of the Mustangs. The Mustangs’ home opener will be on Thursday, September 7th against Blennerhassett Middle School. Come out and support the youth of our county, whether they be Panthers or Mustangs.
