Clay, WV – George William Bevins, 93, of Clay passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Montgomery General Hospital in Montgomery.
He was a retired UMWA coal miner, a Marine Veteran serving in World War II and an avid WVU fan.
Born July 29, 1920 in Logan, he was the son of the late William Jefferson and Henrietta Bevins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Roberta Bevins; a daughter, Patricia Zastawniak; sons, Bill Bevins and Gary “Peewee” Bevins; and 5 brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Terry Bevins of Lizemores; daughters, Jeanette (Jerri) Murphy and husband, James of Wooster, OH, and Nancy Moore and husband, Steve of Milton; a sister, Betty Boone of Crichton; 11 grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Clay Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Jerry Bodkins officiating with the assistance of W.T. Bevins. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 on Tuesday evening at Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home, Clay.
